Thanks to New Years Eve I have new things to look forward to for the year 2010. A new semester begins here to the Cooper campus, and I'm trying to make sure that I actually try to make it through the semester with out and mental break downs. Last semester it took everything I had not to jackknife off the top of the 5/3 building. Think I sound a little over dramatic? Maybe, but for some reason I have a hard time adjusting to this life if you will.
I'll give a little bit of background so maybe you won't think I'm a complete and total nut case. Last May I decided to move in with my boyfriend who at the time I had been dating for 6 months. Everything was going good, I was a little bit skeptical about moving but he insisted, and when you're in love you do the foolish things. So I move across the water.( That's across I75) I'm from a small town just down the road, and I decide to transfer schools.
What made this such a huge event in my life was not only moving away from my home town, leaving my family behind, but leaving my best friend a then roommate. We had some crazy, cray times, and we lived with some crazy people. Oh, and don't let me forget to mention our former scheming, villainous landlord. The music from Kill Bill still plays when I lock eyes with that man. But she was like a sister to me, and she still is today. We both were adjusting to our new lives living apart, we lived together for 2 years; and have been best friends since middle school. It was hard. I also had to say goodbye to my dog who I had to give away because his dog didn't play nice with other animals.
As heart breaking as it was I had to let her go, though she will be one of the reasons I will be in debt for the next ten years of my life. I move my things in and, adjust to my surroundings.
My boyfriend all the while and I worked for the same company, in fact he was my superior, hints why I had to quit my job if we were going to continue dating. See the foolish things that people do when they are in love. He would tell me "It's OK baby I'll take care of you." "You'll be my kept woman". Before this relationship I was learning to be responsible, living on my own not completely with out the assistance from my parents. Working a steady job, and even moving up in to management. And then I get swept up in a whirlwind romance. Hot and heavy just like in those romantic novels. At the time I had no complaints.
That man basically took care of me, weighting on my every whim. It was nice but I felt cooped up, not being able to go out and hang out with my friends and family as much, see that February I had a car accident and I didn't have a vehicle, so I stayed at home. And he worked. He said it wouldn't last long. They had another guy to pick up the slack, and that we would be back to being the romance novel that we were. And things did change, but not for the better.
He worked all the time, every day his phone going off at all hours of the night. See my Aunt told me I was wrong to lay with a man, that was not my husband. (So did she, but that's not the point. and eventually she married my uncle. ) Acting as a wife doesn't mean that you are husband and wife, I quickly learned that. But I still did all the cooking, and then started to do all the cleaning. Which honestly isn't really a problem till you're expected to do something or some one comes home to you an says " We really need to start cleaning, it's disgusting in here." And you've just spent 3-4 hours detail cleaning the house.
So maybe not the sob story that you expected. It gets worse, I spent days and even some nights alone, all my friends were back at home, school wasn't in session yet. So what do you do? Watch a little say time t.v and some yard work of course. But did he notice, too tired, or too busy, but never too busy for late night dinners that were supposed to be with the boss , and important people when some may very well have been, but the others were his ex girlfriend and his friends I have still to this day not met for dinners and possible political discussion. ( He will never admit to any of it but I saw all the emails she sent to him) This is when I start questioning what's really going on? I'm the fool just like in that television show" My Name Is Earl". But let's fast forward into what this has to do with me a school. Well I was looking for a job to fill my time. and also pay for my own things.
By this time he had gotten a little tired of paying for everything. But as you all know the country is in crisis and I couldn't find a job. You would think well for someone my age MC Donald's is always hiring, I'm not knocking them, but I wanted to get away from the restaurant business. So I applied, but was for a while constantly denied.
By this time school was coming around, finally some interaction with other human beings. I was waiting for my acceptance letter to know when to schedule my classes. I also had not told my former roommate of my plan of attending a new college. She knew and was OK with it, now we had More things to talk about. We never ran out of things to talk about. I schedule my classes, and by this time I had submitted my Fasfa so my financial aid should be coming in soon. so I thought.
